“1950: The congregation had outgrown the red brick church and another church was built. The new church was built of stone and had increased seating capacity that would handle more than a thousand people. The little red brick church remains, although the bricks are clad in stone. The modern First United Church has grown but retained parts of its rich history … the Chancel rail of the Peter Jones – Egerton Ryerson days, the site bought by the early Methodist pioneers, the 1894 red brick church almost intact [called the Chapel, now West Edge Church], and the modern structure erected in 1950. It is called First United Church, but it is really four churches in one.”
