Faith Lived Adult Faith

United Church Women

The UCW (United Church Women) was created in 1962 for any woman “willing to contribute her prayers, gifts, and service for the work of the Church”. The UCW is a successor to the Women’s Association (WA), which focused on supporting the local church and community, and the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS), which focused on education and world mission, supporting almost 100 active missionaries around the world.

Today at Christ First, all women are considered members and welcome to attend any event of the 3 units: NOWW, Dorcas and Seekers. New attendees are always welcome. The 3 units join together for an Advent Worship service as well as a lunch in May or June.

NOWW Unit

The NOWW Unit meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Meetings have included speakers, movies, book discussions and afternoon teas.

Dorcas Unit

The Dorcas Unit meetings focus on fellowship and have included book discussion, games, and speakers.

Seekers Unit

The Seekers Unit meetings focus on fellowship, devotions, and a programme based on Study or Outreach.

The Dorcas and Seekers Units are in a time of transition, joining together for some meetings, and joining with the NOWW unit for others. Meetings are held on the second or third Wednesday afternoon of the month.
