In the 1830’s, many new settlers arrived in the area. These were mostly from the British Isles with a few late Loyalists from the United States. In 1838 plans were formulated to build a new, larger church. The date of actual construction is not known. The dedication of the building was held in May 1849. After serving for over 50 years as a church, it was moved and used as a community hall for 20 years, to be sold in 1915 to the Masonic Lodge. Today the original building is encased in the walls of the Mississauga Masonic Temple [Port Street].
