94 Days Until The UCC Anniversary

“Peter Jones, born in 1802, was the son of Welshman, Augustus Jones, and the Provincial Land Surveyor of Upper Canada who marked the site of York, the future Toronto. His second wife, Tuhbenahneequay, was the daughter of a Mississauga chief. Well-educated for those days, raised in a Christian home, Peter Jones accepted Methodism as a young adult, pledging his life to God and the betterment of his people. He began preaching to the Mississauga who hunted and fished at the mouth of the Credit in 1826. The Mississaugas were connected with the Chippewa (another term for Ojibway) and listened with eagerness to the young man’s message in their own tongue. New Loyalist settlers in homesteads scattered along the lakeshore also found his preaching effective.”

The large hall at the Port Credit campus is named in honour of Peter Jones.
